DBT is a psychotherapy focused on skill development in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT was first developed in the 1980’s by Marsh Linehan, after reviewing CBT techniques insufficient in reducing self-harm and suicidal behaviours, such as those stemming from Borderline Personality Disorder.
Literature has grown to show DBT effective in treating a variety of mental health conditions including:
Depression
Anxiety disorders
Eating disorders
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Substance abuse
Bipolar disorder
Irrespective of diagnosed disorders, DBT is a valuable tool for personal growth and change. It can help you develop healthy coping mechanisms, improve your relationships, and live a more fulfilling life.
